Flight lesson 2: Don’t mind me, I just leaked a little
This is post 3 in a 4 part series that I’ve dubbed Flight Lessons. I will be sharing important life lessons I learned while traveling abroad this last month. Enjoy!
It’s not every day when you discover you can be your own nemesis. Especially not when waiting to deboard a flight.
My life’s purpose is to bring healing to the world by increasing the world’s energy. However, I found myself doing the exact opposite when I subconsciously threw an energy dagger into a fellow passenger’s energy field and was set on bringing us both down.
The impetus? A petty disagreement on my part. I wanted to skip through the line inorder to sprint to our next flight in an attempt to hold the plane for my parents. One of the passengers told me that I couldn’t pass him up because as he explained, “We were all in the same situation.” This totally got under my skin… even though I knew he was right. I didn’t engage with him after that, I just stood there stewing.
Same situation, really? Do you need to figure out how to get yourself and 2 aging parents to a gate that is most likely 4 terminals away and get boarding passes all within 30 minutes? The only reason I was asking to skip in line was that the passengers around me suggested I get to the front! And now you want to say you are in the same situation as me?!?
Despite the building anger and the storytelling in my mind, I somehow managed to observe what was happening with my energy body, or human biofield, at the same time. I literally felt the energy leaking out from my energy field and hooking into his. I was depleting my own energy bank and his at the same time.
What the $%&# was happening?
At this moment I was tapping into the truth of how our emotions, thoughts and energy are all connected. This is why we need to be conscious and claim responsibility over how we manage our energy, not just our words.
While I was experiencing emotions of anger and telling stories to fuel it, my actual energy body was also activating and responding. The subtle energy of my energy field was leaving my energy body (human biofield) and traveling through space to this other unsuspecting individual. The energy was then entering into his energy body and impacting it’s overall frequency. Thus I was bringing us both down together. I can see how crazy this sounds to someone unfamiliar with energy. Stay with me.
We’ve all been in a doctor’s or dentist’s office where we’ve seen an upset patient lash out at the receptionist and people around them. It’s not just the receptionist on the receiving end that is impacted. The tension can be felt by everyone in the room. What is it that is actually being felt by the others? It's the subtle energy of the patient having the outburst. What I am describing is the movement of energy from one person to the next and its impact on others.
The human biofield is a dense and complex structure of energy systems. One of these energy systems is what is most commonly recognized in the west is referred to as Chakras. This energy system has been called different things throughout time and across continents. The Taoist tradition refers to them as dantien. The Cabala call them “tree of life centers.” and the Huna tradition of Hawaii refers to them as auw centers. Despite the various names, the overall purpose and structure of these systems are nearly universal across cultures. Energy both enters and leaves the energy body through the chakra system. We have more control over this aspect than we are aware of.
Caroline Myss, a renowned medical intuitive, once explained the relationship of leaking energy and choice like this. Each of us has $100 in energy a day to spend. We can choose to spend it or we can choose to invest it. When we choose to feel anger, rage or other heavy emotions we leak or spend energy and can even risk depletion. However, when we engage in activities like mindfulness or meditation we increase our energy reserve. The power is in choice. In this instance I was choosing to leak my energy and deplete myself in the process.
The realization that I was harming him and he needed protection from my energy was a gut wrenching experience. Through this experience I was reminded that I need to take an active role and take responsibility for my energy in my daily life, not just when working with clients. We all have the power (literal POWER) to lift others or tear them down. It's about paying attention, being present and making conscious choices instead of going into autopilot.
The next time you feel mad, angry or upset I encourage you (and myself) to pause, breathe and try to become present in the now. What is it that is happening in your energy field? Are you fueling or depleting your energy?
